EMMANUEL CARES CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR KIDS

Christmas is a special time of year…especially for children.  Thanks to generous donations by Walmart, Emmanuel Cares was able to spread holiday cheer by sharing over 200 toys, games, and coloring books with several organizations who who serve the children of our community.

One such organization was Felix Cook, Jr. Elementary in the Houston Independent School District.  In addition to the donations of toys for the boys and girls of this campus, we were happy to be able to also share boxes of school supplies (paper, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, etc.) to help meet student needs in the second half of the school year.

HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF

In late August 2017, Hurricane Harvey swept through the Gulf Coast region of Texas with devastating results. Thousands of citizens had to be evacuated to shelters due to the record level rains.  Many lost cars, homes, and all their belongings as a result of the extensive and prolonged flooding.

Emmanuel Cares wanted to do something to help. Concerned citizens partnered with us from as far away as Dallas, Texas and Detroit, Michigan, to help provide relief.  Because of their generous donations we were able to provide financial assistance, clothing, shoes, new bedding, cleaning supplies,  hygiene products, and gift cards/donations to families in crisis.

Wal-Mart, wanted to help also, providing much needed school supplies, toys and games for children. We are thankful also for Calvary Tabernacle (Detroit, MI), COGIC Charities, and World Vision for their donations.

EMMANUEL CARES sponsored a FREE Summer Evening Tutorial Program for students in K – 5th grade. The program was offered every Wednesday evening from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The goal of the tutorial program was to partner with Teachers, Administrators, and Tutor Volunteers to help students build their Reading and Math Skills in a safe and nurturing environment in preparation for the new school year. We especially wanted to equip our students with the tools and strategies necessary to excel on their Reading and Math STAAR Exams.  Thanks to our Community Partners, Wal-Mart and Chick-Fil-A, a wholesome snack was also be provided for each student who participated. The Montgomery Country Memorial Library also gifted books to support Reading instruction.

We ended our Summer program to allow parents and students to prepare for the new school year and then had to pause our efforts due to Hurricane Harvey which devastated the gulf coast region of Texas, including Houston and surrounding areas.  We plan to begin our FREE After School Tutorial Program tutorial program in the near future.

It is our goal to launch of our C.A.R.E.S Academy in the fall of 2018 which will offer an after school tutorial program 5 days a week supporting students academically in grades K – 5th grade!  We welcome all donations/resources to help launch this important initiative.
