We Can and We Shall Make a Difference in Our Lifetime

SUMMER 2017 TUTORIAL PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

EDUCATION

EMMANUEL CARES sponsored a FREE Summer Evening Tutorial Program for students in K – 5th grade. The program was offered every Wednesday evening from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The goal of the tutorial program was to partner with Teachers, Administrators, and Tutor Volunteers to help students build their Reading and Math Skills in a safe and nurturing environment in preparation for the new school year. We especially wanted to equip our students with the tools and strategies necessary to excel on their Reading and Math STAAR Exams.  Thanks to our Community Partners, Wal-Mart and Chick-Fil-A, a wholesome snack was also be provided for each student who participated. The Montgomery Country Memorial Library also gifted books to support Reading instruction.
We ended our Summer program to allow parents and students to prepare for the new school year and then had to pause our efforts due to Hurricane Harvey which devastated the gulf coast region of Texas, including Houston and surrounding areas.

ECC VOLUNTEERS AT COUNCIL MEMBER JERRY DAVIS B.T.S BLOCK PARTY

EDUCATION

Emmanuel Cares not only works hard to support our own causes, but we also believe in partnering with others who are working to make a difference in the community. On August 19, Houston City Councilman Jerry Davis (in last picture below with Advisory Board Chairman Hewett Richardson, Jr.) hosted the 2017 “Back To School Block Party” at Tidwell Park providing much needed school supplies, backpacks, food, haircuts, and more to those in need before the start of the 2017 School Year.  Members of Emmanuel Cares volunteered to help support this great cause that helped so many families in our community.
